Day 57

Another holiday in quarantine. When will this end? Day 57? I never would have imagined this. Wow are we making some memories. The other night at dinner we were talking about funny stories that have happened and we were laughing so hard. It is truly the memories (not the things) that make us smile and bring us the most joy!

So today's holiday is Mother's Day or "MoMther's Day" as Grant wrote on all of his gifts to me! We are really going to work on his spelling this summer! Brandon woke up and went to get donuts for breakfast. He scored big with a new cinnamon roll with maple glaze. We had coffee and went to church. Then we looked at each other. What to do. The weather was pretty miserable. Cold, windy, cloudy, sometimes rainy...so real special. No tennis, no pickle ball, no walks, no hikes...so GAMES. Oh my gosh we played so many games!

Sequence, 3 to the King card game, lunch, hot tub, Yahtzee, Qwirkle, back jack and Rack-o! Some old classics! Brandon grilled steaks for dinner.

We thought it would be fun to teach the kids a new game so I recommended Black Jack. It is a dream of Brandon's to be a BJ dealer in Vegas, you know when he is done touring with the PGA. So he was more than happy to deal the cards. He even gave us $1 chips so we could tip the dealer (or teach the kids how to bet the tips!). It was really a lot of fun. We had to tell them to not bang the table every time - just if you are dealt an Ace. "Don't touch the cards!" and "Place your bets!" were also common phrases. We started with $500 in chips (very generous). They bet true to their personalities. Elizabeth was putting out $5 each time (the table minimum), Grant was trying to be sneaky and bet $1 and then $25 and "hey dad how much is the black one worth?".  By the end I am up a couple of hundred and playing on the house and Grant is betting $100 hands just trying to win it all back and Elizabeth just wants to walk away with the little she has left because she doesn't want to lose it all! Brandon and I both said "we don't want you to win the first time! Betting is learning that you have to be Ok with losing!". We also talked about having to go to the ATM to get more cash (not a good idea) and that putting chips in your pocket was a money management  method, it is NOT stealing. A lot of life lessons and math skills! Elizabeth also liked to declare if she was using her Ace as a one or an eleven: "I'll make that an 11" and Grant kept trying to call the game anything but black jack - mainly cribbage and jack black and he thought you played in a cappuccino instead of a casino! God bless him!

The kids made me cards and banners and clay donuts  and were really good all day - even when I won most of the games :) They are amazing kids and I am lucky to be their mom. We

I am also really lucky to have a great mom that I get to spend so much time with. And really the time we get to spend with our loved ones is what I treasure the most.
