Elizabeth: "What are we doing today?"
Me: "I don't know what do you want to do?"
E: "Let's go to the zoo!"
Me: "Really? Don't you think it is cold?"
E: "Noooo, it's finnnnee!"
Me: "Why don't we check the radar to make sure it isn't going to rain"
E: "Ok"
(we check the radar....no "green"/rain)
Me: "Ok, it looks like there won't be any rain. I have a letter that needs to be mailed, will you run it out to the mailbox for me?"
E: "All by myself?!"
Me: "Yep"
E: "Sure mom!"
(picture a three year old with bedhead in her tinkerbell pj's and pink rainboots running out to the mailbox)
E: "I did it!"
Me: "Did you think it was cold?"
E: "No"
Me: "Oopps I found one more letter!"
(second trip to the mailbox)
Me: "Do you think it is cold now?"
Me: "No"
(I give up! I guess we are going to the zoo)
Two hours later...we arrive at the zoo. I am quite confident we were the only patrons there. I really don't know how they manage to stay open during the winter. We saw several workers. The good news was that all of the animals were out and very glad to see visitors. We had quite the display of animal antics too! First there was the snake and me being me I try to point out things, not just walk through. I notice that one of the snake's has it's tail in it's little pond of water. Elizabeth comes over to look and what do you know, the snake pees in the water! That is something I can say I had never thought about before and certainly never seen! A lengthy conversation followed about who would change the snake's water. The spider monkey had his tail wrapped around his "manly" part - thank goodness I was the only one who noticed. But I couldn't help but think, I have seen a monkey do that before! Then we roused the "rainbow monkeys" from their slumber only for them to put on quite the grooming display. Apparently it is the younger monkey's job to pick/clean/groom the larger monkey. Any guesses on what area he focused on? Yep the rear-end. I mean come on! The monkey's bottoms are always a topic of conversation anyway, but now I get to explain this!
No you can go first! |
Look! I'm wearing my hat and my gloves! |
It was in the low 40's but the kid's hands were starting to get cold. Grant did a great job keeping his hat on and an ok job with his mittens. He is still getting used to them. I guess we are pretty lucky for it be the middle of December and just now really breaking out the warm weather gear. I wanted him to walk a little and get some exercise, it took some persuading, as he preferred my arms to the stroller, but eventually he decided walking was just fine.
Elizabeth: "Let's get together and no biting anymore!" He just wanted to hold her hand - he hadn't even bit her today! |
