She got up there and read like a champ!! |
The younger ones start singing. All seems fine. |
I am sitting on the floor in front of a side pew with my legs under me to keep an eye on all of my little 1st grade cherubs when Grant looks at me with a "ugh I don't feel good face" I motion back mom style "you're fine" and give him a thumbs up....
Then I get this face! Oh no he is not fine. I was pretty sure he was going to puke. It's December, it's Illinois, stomach flu is going around. I run up to get him with the intention of just taking him out of the sanctuary. As soon as I get there he looses all color in his face and as I go to pick him up he falls like dead weight into my arms. But it looks like I am trying to pick him up and carry him. Well I was trying to pick him up and carry him...2 problems...1) he weights 70 pounds and 2) my legs are asleep from sitting on them. I thought I could make it out of the sanctuary with him but quickly realize I am not going to make it that far and can only get to the piano bench. Once I sit down with him across my lap like a sack of potatoes, I realize that he has passed out. He was a little slow to come to, but eventually did, but still looked as white as a ghost. Brandon came up behind me and picked him up and was able to carry him out. A couple of nurse friends came over to check on him. Classic case of locking the knees during a music performance. Uncle David and Daddy have very similar stories to tell!
So Brandon takes him out and I sit there a few more minutes to reassure Elizabeth that everything is ok, because she has now joined the singing group and is wondering what in the world in the world has happened to her brother! What a fiasco! We are just glad that he was OK and thankful for mommy intuition to make the catch just in time. I know as soon as he knew my body was there it was ok for him to collapse. However, he can't grow too much more or I'm only going to be breaking his falls!
