Basketball

Basketball is the winter sport for the kids. Grant plays co-ed and this is the first year for Elizabeth to play all girls. Grant's first basket was in the garbage can. Notice in the pictures there is a black garbage can behind the hoop. It's pretty funny when kindergarteners miss the real hoop but it ends in the garbage can! Grant plays basketball the same way he plays soccer, a smile on his face the whole time! His ball control has really improved and he makes a few hoops every game so he loving it. Plus one of his best buds ended up on his team.

Elizabeth has a had a lot of fun too. It is important that her hair looks just right and one game she lost her headband half way down the court and I wasn't sure she would be able to go on, but she wrapped it around her wrist and proceeded like a champ! She typically sits on the sidelines with her legs crossed and big smile on her face as she cheers on the other girls. Her first game she scored the first basket and that really rallied the girls, because I don't think those points came until the 2nd half! Needless to say 2nd and 3rd grade girls basketball is a low scoring affair. There have been nice improvements throughout the season and we talk each week about being more aggressive. It will be interesting to see if she asks to play again next year!

Grant told me last week, "Mom, sometimes I just throw the ball out of bounds if I don't know what to do with it!"

The traveling cheering sections! Their games are never in the same place and Ima and Pops go from one end of town to the other to cheer the kids on!

They both wanted to play spring soccer. So we have cold, wet Saturday mornings to look forward to! Then it is on to swimming. The May stroke clinic for swim team will overlap with soccer a little bit, but it so good to have them healthy and active and they truly enjoy all the activities they do.
