Valentine's Day

LOVE!
This year Valentine's Day was on a Thursday. I had a meeting at church Tuesday night, leaving the perfect opportunity for daddy and the kids to do a little shopping. The next day were getting ready for Joy to come over for speech and I made the comment "we need to vacuum downstairs this morning. "Elizabeth yelled  "you can't go downstairs!" (she meant the basement, I meant the main floor)  This was the moment I was clued in that something was down there for Valentine's Day.   A little later in the day I hear Elizabeth whisper to Grant something about a card and keeping a secret.   Thursday morning the kids wake up and they tell me they had something for me downstairs. (Really?!) So I stayed in the kitchen and wait for them to come up from the basement and all I hear Elizabeth say is "I can't help you with that buddy it's too heavy."   Elizabeth emerges from the basement stairs carrying a vase of flowers. They were the neon colored ones that she always admires when she sees them at a store. Very sweet! Then Grant comes up the stairs and I see that he also has a vase of flowers, however he trips on the last step and falls forward.  Luckily he was very agile and he saved the flowers. However he was very upset by the stumble and was afraid he had ruined it and was crying.   They also handed me a card where they had signed their names. Good job daddy I was very surprised!
More love!

I guess he did let me take his picture, but he wasn't happy about it!
Always smiling :)
The kids opened their Valentines and Grant promptly dropped his new light-up Scooby-Doo glass.  Instead of lighting up it was now shaking/rattling.  I assumed it was trashed, however Daddy was the hero later that night at dinner and he fixed it!

As I'm getting breakfast ready I hear Elizabeth say to  Grant "no hitting, no biting, no  pinching. Today is a day of love.  Got it Grant? Right Mommy?"  Oy!!  I took Elizabeth to school and she had her Valentine's Day party.   We had made valentines with the rainbows and a bag of Skittles (thank you Pinterest).   After school she had swim lessons. Mimi came to watch her.   Unfortunately she didn't get to see any diving board action because the high school swim team was swimming in that pool.   She did however do an awesome backstroke across the length of the pool.

For dinner the kids helped me make chicken Cordon Bleu and heart shaped Jell-O.   As we sat down to eat this lovely dinner I was reminded of Valentine's Day 2012 where we had just sat down to dinner and Grant promptly started throwing up, as it was his turn to have the stomach flu.   This year was a much healthier Valentine's Day.

His new favorite book! Tractors and flaps!
A collection of Fancy Nancy...an instant favorite!
Special heart pancakes for breakfast

Hero daddy for fixing the light-up cup! I promise he did smile throughout the day - just not for my camera!
Brandon and I didn't really do much for each other since we had just been away the week before.
